Scapegoat KS2 Workshop

A unique, interactive system, that promotes Emotional Literacy in children through the use of Drama.

The key to the success of our primary workshops lies in Scapegoat’s awareness and inclusion of all of the main Multiple Intelligence Learning styles. This means that we have been able to create a product, which can have an educational and emotional impact on every type of child.

Each workshop lasts for 2 hours and is for a maximum of 35 children. The workshop can be a generalised session working with the issues found in Emotional Literacy; handling relationships, managing feelings etc, or they can have a specific slant to a subject matter chosen by the school; "Bullying and prejudice" or "Anger Management" for example.

The sessions are run by experienced actors/teachers who firstly take the children through a range of exercises designed to strengthen the group emotionally. We use a combination of Team building games, group problem solving exercises, anger management techniques, self esteem affirmation work and training in positive communication skills, all of which have been adapted to be accessible and above all FUN for the children involved.

The children are then lead into a forumming session where they get to “Act out” various real problems, which they themselves have encountered in life, such as being bullied or going through a parents divorce. The group as a whole participate in resolving the problems faced, by making suggestions and “trying out” different solutions in a role-play scenario.

During the Forum session, many things are explored in depth such as: People’s behaviour and motivations, feelings and opinions and positive ways of communicating. The group also get to “see” the consequences and results of every course of action they put forward, through the acting out of all the different suggestions. Forum Theatre provides the children with a “Safe” way to try out different options. It is a clear and visual tool for looking at how best to approach life’s difficult situations.
